This game looks promising. The difficulty looked like even a veteran video game racer will be in for a frustrating time. I like that fact about it. Most racing games out right now that aren’t simulators, such as Forza and Need for Speed, are ridiculously easy for the common gamer. The roster of characters for this game is just fantastic. I am very excited to be able to play as Ryo from Shemmune, one of my favorite games of all time. The addition of Banjo-Kazoie was also a bonus. It feels good to see a little mixing outside of the Sega universe.

I have played the demo over Xbox Live and I can say that this does indeed feel like a Mario Kart clone, but with little differences that will make it a pretty good game. To be completely honest, I think it feels like Diddy Kong Racing more than Mario Kart. DKR was basically Rare’s answer to Mario Kart. While they ripped off major game play features, they add enough to make it feel like a completely different experience and that is what I feel while playing this game.

The graphics are very beautiful and crisp. The tracks look like they will be close enough to the Sega universe that they will all be enjoyable, even if the track is difficult. I know, as a dedicated Sega gamer, that I will enjoy all tracks solely on the fact that it is so reminiscent of my favorite retro game.

The game play is pretty solid for a kart racer. The drifting adds another element, but I felt that it was a little over needed. It should be optional, but not required to win.

This game is definitely a rent for me, but you can be sure that I will rent it.
